LETTER
Aylmer drivers dangerous
To the man with the big white moustache speeding down Brook Street in his older model beige CRV-like vehicle: there's a school on this street! And while 6 pm is outside school hours, it's still a posted limit of 40 and loads of people are out enjoying the fact that the sun is still shining and it's not minus I can't feel my toes anymore out.
So when someone sees you and waves at you to slow down, speeding up is a douche-bag move. You see, there are still reasonably tall snow banks which easily hide children, like my two year old toddler, who in an effort to assert his independence, was stubbornly refusing to hold my hand as we walked back from the car to our front door, which involves a one meter jaunt along the side of the street where there is no sidewalk.
Is it just me or are drivers exceptionally aggressive along our small streets? I'm so fed up and tired of worrying about the inevitable day when someone gets seriously injured, or worse. Has anyone had any experience successfully getting measures put in place to slow traffic on their streets in Aylmer?
I've contacted our councillor once, and while he said that they'd increase police checks, it certainly hasn't resulted in any permanent or even remotely noticeable changes. Would love your thoughts!
