Aylmer couple celebrate 68 years of marriage

Andre Sanche and Cecile Methot grew up during the Great Depression in Limbour, Quebec. They attended the same school where their friendship eventually grew into love. They were married May 01,1954. Andre had enlisted in the armed forces in his late teens and the military life meant frequent postings in Europe and throughout Canada. The family grew quickly, five boys within the first eight years of marriage and life was all about raising and providing for their young family. In 1967, the family finally settled in Aylmer, Quebec. Andre retired from the military shortly after and Cecile returned to the workforce, working as a waitress in Ottawa and Aylmer. A nature lover and people person, she volunteered as Cheftaine des Guides d`Aylmer where she helped influence the lives of many young women.
Unfortunately, within a few years, Andre suffered two serious health challenges that changed the course of both their lives. After recovering from a leg amputation, wheelchair sports became Andre`s passion. With Cecile by his side, basketball, sledge hockey, and tennis helped him to adjust to his new reality, but then open-heart surgery forced him to stop these activities. Andre`s interest in the arts led to a return to studies, where he earned a bachelor's degree from UQO. He still enjoys painting and photography today while Cecile can be found enjoying activities at the Club de L'Age D'Or with her numerous friends.
Today, they are grandparents to 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mom, Dad, congratulations on your 68 years together. Your family loves you and we are very proud of you - your family
