AstroPontiac hitching their wagon to a star
The planetarium project spearheaded by the non-profit AstroPontiac is far from being inert. Association President and Aylmer resident Stefan Paape continues working to build a planetarium in Luskville with high-quality telescopes.
“The idea is to get a blow-up planetarium. It’s like a mini-barn with a roof that rolls off. Inside there would be telescopes that open to the sky,” said Paape. The group has received the green light from the NCC to hold observing sessions near Luskville Falls.
Since launching his fundraiser and friendraiser campaigns, Mr Paape continues knocking on the doors of different public institutions to obtain funding for the educational astronomy project. And he’s not barking at the moon. The MRC des Collines is finalizing a $34,500 funding agreement with AstroPontiac for the project’s first phase.
Founded in 2011, AstroPontiac’s goal is to build the first public observatory and astronomy park in West Quebec. For more information, follow Pontiac Observatory on Twitter @AstroPontiac or send them an email at astropontiac@gmail.com.
