Astonishing skunk rescue!
November 20, 6:10 am, I had just left home for work, and within one minute of my drive I was shocked to see a large skunk struggling to get across the street. Closer, I was astonished to see that the skunk had a glass jar covering its head completely! I called 311 but they said that they could not deal with this and suggested I try the police! No way I was calling police for a skunk problem. As I struggled with the decision to get out of my vehicle to help, a woman from a nearby house came outside. When I told her that nobody was willing to help, she approached this skunk slowly, talking softly. To my amazement, she reached down, grabbed the jar and began to twist it from side to side until it just popped off. The skunk, exhausted and likely terrified, turned away from her and quietly walked off!
I called out “good job!” to this amazing lady who had more guts than I. It certainly saved the life of this critter that most of us only curse.
I will never forget this day. Nice to see that some of us still exist out there who care enough to help an animal in distress – unlike the many cars that so inconveniently had to drive around me as I blocked this skunk from the small volume of traffic while trying to figure out a way to help.
If the wonderful lady who braved the potential of a smelly outcome reads this, I commend you for your care and bravery!
