Art Exhibit at St Paul’s Church
A collection from 23 artists and seven artisans from the Outaouais was on display at the 62nd annual Art Expo hosted by the Aylmer Arts Council at St Paul’s Church in Aylmer from June 2-4. The event was free and open to the public, including the opening night vernissage which was attended by this year’s Honourary President André Fortin, Deputy for the Pontiac.
President of the Aylmer Arts Council Andrée Sincennes stated that she “was delighted by the turnout on June 2, 3 and 4,” to support the artists and the beauty they bring to the world.
Louis Boucher, President of St Paul’s Parish Council, said that after the June 2009 fire that destroyed the building, “there has been a lot of hard work put into re-establishing St Paul’s place in the community’s cultural history”. Art Expo 2017 is a welcome event that brings focus to community life.
Jacinthe Laferrière is one of featured artists. She says that “creating a work of art is very solitary so it`s a special occasion for artists to share the work they have poured all their efforts into”. Kalula Kalambay is a painter who was part of the exhibit. He stated that “it can be very intimidating to bring your work into the public like this, but when we create, the viewer is there with us all the time”. St Paul’s Church is located at 26 ch. Eardley in Aylmer.
