Arbitrator called into city - police union talks
The city and Gatineau’s police union, the Fraternité des Policiers et Policières de Gatineau Inc. (FPPG) are in the midst of re-negotiating their collective agreement. According to the city’s Yves Melanson, an arbitrator has been brought in to negotiate with both sides and get an agreement on the table. The current agreement expired January 1, 2015 – last year.
Mr Melanson dismissed the prospect of a strike. “An arbitrator is supposed to bring both sides to an agreement and avoid a strike,” he said. As to the points still unresolved, Melanson noted that he would not comment on an arbitration underway.
FPPG President Jean-Pierre Bussière could not be reached for comment at the time of publication. The local police union has 433 members.
