Appalled by the Teck mine proposal
The largest tar sands mine ever proposed, the Teck Resource’s Frontier Mine, will soon be on the agenda of the federal cabinet. I am concerned that the Trudeau government may grant approval to this climate disaster.
In addition to irreversible environmental impacts like the loss of thousands of hectares of old growth, critical fish habitat, and wetlands, this mine would make it impossible to meet our international climate commitments.
Finally, this project makes no economic sense. Low oil prices mean that Teck cannot make a profit, since they need oil to be at least $90.00 per barrel. We are in a climate emergency. Our federal government needs to step up and be a climate leader.
