Another lesson from Marché LaFlamme
The recent embrace and recognition of Marche LaFlame by the Canadian Government was an honour for all of us, one that was worthy of and certainly shared by all of Aylmer. I understand, Marche Laflamme offered food for free during our recent energy shut down. It was an extraordinary community gift. We should all be proud and grateful for such generosity in Aylmer.
Meanwhile, a much larger, corporate food provider amongst us, saw the weather warnings and ordered large generators immediately. They then brought in 20-30 staff and moved all perishable items into a refrigerated room. They were able to keep open, providing food without any loss of produce throughout the aftermath of the storm.
Why do I recognize both?
For younger citizens, those responses in the moment may reflect the future landscape of what may be required of them in the future. Number one, generosity to community. Second, paying attention, learning to remain agile in organizing and mobilizing your available, local resources. Both are good lessons for our young ones looking to the future.
My hope is that this community support will remain strong amongst us... in the Canadian way. Thank you, Marche LaFlamme!
