New government for Quebec: CAQ majority

André Fortin wins Pontiac

After a long election campaign, it is official. The Pontiac riding remains Liberal red. André Fortin, from the PLQ, was elected by a majority ahead of Olive Kamanyana of the Coalition avenir Québec. Mr Fortin, 36-year-old father of two was first elected as a representative of the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) in the 2014 election. He had been appointed Minister of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Electrification of Transport in 2017. He will return to the National Assembly with a smaller team, since the CAQ will form the next government. Two ridings in the Outaouais remain liberal, with a CAQ seat for Papineau with Mathieu Lacombe, a CAQ seat in Gatineau for Robert Bussière, a CAQ seat in Chapleau for Mathieu Lévesque and in Hull, Maryse Gaudreault also kept the Liberal seat.
