And they’re off!
The Terry Fox Run was a well-attended event at the Aylmer Marina and was heavily supported by the local business community through donations for a silent auction held to raise money for cancer research, September 18.
The course started near the Aylmer Marina, a loop that follows the bicycle path along the scenic Ottawa River to the Deschenes Rapids and back. Each kilometre of the 10-km course was marked and there were water stations and restrooms along the route.
The annual run in Canada is usually hosted on the second Sunday after Labour Day, the month chosen by Terry to reflect when he had to stop running.
The Terry Fox Run is a non-competitive event where people get together as individuals, families, and groups to raise money for cancer research in Terry Fox's name. “It is a day of celebrating Terry's legacy and helping to keep alive his dream of finding a cure for cancer,” organizers said. Terry Fox Runs take place in over 9,000 communities across Canada every year and are accessible to anyone with no entry fee, no minimum pledge and with a non-competitive atmosphere. Participants can run, walk, blade or bike and most of all have fun while raising funds for cancer research.
