Allen Park favoured
Aylmer Road dog area will be moved
Because a new high school will be constructed where the Paul Pelletier dog exercise area exists (near the pool, on Aylmer Road), the Aylmer Canine Club met with Gatineau officials, March 3, and requested a new enclosed dog exercise space. The club estimates that Allen Park, at the corner of Aylmer and Allen roads, would meet the club’s requirements -- acceptable zoning, low impact on neighbourhood tranquility, access to a main road, adequate parking, water and electricity -- and no conflict with neighbouring recreational installations.
The Club has asked the city to proceed quickly from closing the Pelletier park to opening the Allen Park dog exercise area. It also requested that the perimeter fence be higher in the new park. According to the club, many such details remain to be worked out.
André Lemay, president of the Canine Club, underlines that the Pelletier dog area will remain open this summer and fall, and that the Jardins Lavigne off-leash dog park is “in no way affected by this project.”
