LETTER
“Admiring Aylmer!” editorial
Admiring Aylmer! sounded like a good-cheer editorial (August 8), one you’d read because you shared the views about to be expressed. It got off to a tripping start. Mr Ryan spent the first two paragraphs, of an otherwise uplifting encomium, sharing the views of “all sorts of people” who, furious with Mr Trump and those who share his less-government agenda, plan to boycott “US products and foodstuffs” and even refuse to travel south. We’ll see how they feel, come winter.
Could not our kindly editorialist have delivered himself of this warm tribute without a gratuitous diatribe against an ideology of which he disapproves? It was amusing that, after his rabble-rousing intro, he should, at the end, enjoin us to “ forget the over-heated politics and the hyperbole” and enjoy the summer. Lighten up!
Ron Lefebvre, Aylmer
