LETTER
Accuracy is of the essence
Your French editorialist, Didier Périès, in his column (Le Bulletin - August 29) mentions in his third paragraph that the Liberal Party of Québec has been in power in Québec for the past fifteen years. In journalism, accuracy is of the essence.
Contrary to Mr. Périès’ affirmation, the Quebec Liberal Party, under the leadership of Philippe Couillard, has been in power for the last four years only, not fifteen. He took power over the Parti Québécois Government of Pauline Marois, the first woman to become Premier of Québec, from 2012 to 2014. One should not forget that during her time in office, she approved and financed oil drilling on Anticosti Island, and the highly polluting Port Daniel Ciment Plant; she asked Quebecers to give her a majority government in order to pass the divisive Charter of Values that brought her down. I ask Mister Périès to get better acquainted with Quebec’s political scene and rectify the facts about the number of years the actual Liberal Government has been in power, four years not fifteen.
