Abattoir les Viandes du Pontiac collaborates with a local farm to sell grass-fed beef
Sophie Demers
Abattoir les Viandes du Pontiac, owned by Alain Lauzon, offers an impressive selection of antibiotic-free and locally-raised meat. The facility is in Shawville at 65 Route 148. Lauzon told the Bulletin that, since 2018, when the facility was constructed, it has valued supporting local farms and employing Pontiac residents to support the local economy.
Lauzon states that to provide his clients with the best local meat possible, he has partnered with a farm in Masham to offer grass-fed beef, which has been in high demand recently. The facility is certified and regularly inspected to ensure superior quality.
The slaughterhouse has recently added new machinery to their facility, which allows workers to weigh and prepare the meat quickly and efficiently. The high-quality machinery will also allow them to start selling sausages.
Their 16 expertly trained employees ensure the highest hygiene and sanitation standards. The Abattoir aims to limit the time between slaughter and delivery, while adhering to maturation times to provide the Outaouais region with fresh and natural meat products.
They also offer delivery throughout the region. Customers can place their orders through their website. For farmers and hunters, the slaughterhouse offers slaughter services for beef, veal, lamb, and goats. Deer and moose can also be processed there during hunting seasons.
