A third lane will not speed up your commute
Following more bashing of cycling lanes along Lucerne, I would like to echo previous comments regarding the parallel but longer NCC pathway, which has a 20 km/h speed limit and several sections which are impassible in the spring due to ice/snow and flooding. Currently there are zero safe winter cycling options heading out of Aylmer. For those proposing that a third lane on Lucerne would have been a better option, it would have resulted in one more start-and-stop lane, traveling at 10 km/h or slower, competing with traffic on Aylmer Road, Boulevard St-Raymond, Taché, and westbound Lucerne, all trying to enter the single lane on Champlain Bridge. A second bridge lane is available to the small minority with more than one person in their car.
Want a faster commute? Try carpooling, supporting a better transit system, and championing bike lanes as an alternate means of transport for others, because another 4 km long parking lot will not make your trip any faster.
