A sweet weekend for Aylmer
Aylmer hosted several events over the March 19-20 weekend. Besides the Outaouais Film Festival at Cinéma Aylmer, the Sport and Outdoor Fair at the Galeries Aylmer, rue Principale was buzzing with activities throughout the weekend as part of the festival, la Principale se sucre le bec.
Now established as an Aylmer tradition that marks the beginning of spring, the festival drew large crowds to Aylmer’s main drag. Thousands hit the pavement in search of their maple-fix offered in many stores or to take part in typical sugaring season activities. Hay bale tossing, horse-drawn carriage rides, maple beer tasting, were just some of the happenings on the event schedule.
According to Anick Néron, rue Principale’s coordinator, the festival was a success. Last year, there were roughly 5,000 visitors. “The merchants were very happy. Many of them ran out of products.” Official numbers are unavailable as Ms Néron is still working on the post-mortem report. “There were more people than last year that’s for sure,” said Anick Néron.
