A single tax rate for all school boards?
Eric Antoine, president of the Commission scolaire au Coeur-des-Vallés (CSCV), Le Droit, le 3 septembre, demands social equity by applying a single taxation rate for the CSCV and the anglophone school board, Western Quebec (WQSB). Currently, the CSCV taxation rate for $100 of evaluation is 65% higher than that of the WQSB.
As a taxpayer, I would like to know: Would equity of services be assured with a single rate? Why does this discrepancy exist? Would a single rate climb faster than the sum of the two current single rates? Furthermore, with a single rate, there would no longer be a need for the two administrative centres for tax collection. The current services of the City could be used.
