A Pinochet for Venezuela? 

I appreciated seeing some thoughtful comment on the Venezuelan political chaos in the Bulletin’s letters (last week).  Clearly, our federal government has signed on to the Trump Agenda. We were going to diversify our economy to get out from under the American thumb, remember that? In one move, Trump throws Canada under the China bus. Or did we climb under, thinking that’s our escape? 

We should be resisting the US’ Pinochet Plan for Venezuela – disrupt the economy, impose sanctions, enlist the dissatisifed wealthy classes, and create the chaos that will require outside intervention, another Pinochet. For this the US just brought Elliot Abrams out of retirement – his experience with death squads in El Salvador and Nicaragua will be essential.  

Americans are the ones who need a regime change.  And our own branch-plant leadership with them, especially those leading Global Affairs. Lift the US sanctions and see how long Venezuela is a failed state.
