Action Gatineau
A new candidate to run in Lucerne
Aylmer resident Martin A. Roy is throwing his hat into the 2017 municipal election race. Roy was the only candidate for Action Gatineau’s nomination race in the Lucerne Ward (2) scheduled on March 23.
Mr Roy is joining the municipal political party because he’s tired of seeing important municipal files stall at City Hall. “As we speak, it seems to me that everyone is working for their ward without thinking of the common good for the city. If elected officials all worked together and shared a vision, projects would move along much faster,” he told the Bulletin.
Mr Roy works as an advisor on economic development for the Ministère de l'Économie, de la Science et de l'Innovation (MESI). As an Economic Development Advisor with MESI for several years, he’s been collaborating with the City of Gatineau and with ID Gatineau (previously CLD) sitting on the board as an observer.
Mr Roy moved to Gatineau in 2012 and lives in La Seigneurie neighbourhood. Before settling in Aylmer, Roy primarily worked in the financial industry after obtaining his bachelor in economical management from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR).
On the community side, he’s held the position of Vice-President with the Aylmer Hockey Minor Association (AHMA) for almost two years. According to Roy, the Guertin project is an example where councillors were unable to work together towards a common goal. “We would not be near the end of the current mandate with a project that, in the end, might not be approved by Quebec City,” said Roy.
With Lucerne councillor Mike Duggan’s stunning decision to run in Deschênes during the upcoming municipal elections, Mr Roy is the only declared candidate so far in Lucerne.
