Plateau Library
A further step forward for the new library
The new library project in the Plateau took another step forward with the entry into effect of two bylaws authorizing the loan of $7,282,800 on Wednesday, August 14.
The first bylaw, number 853-2019, authorizes the loan and expenditure of $2,032,800 to carry out the construction work on the Plateau library. This loan will be repaid in full through a grant from the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec.
The second bylaw authorizes the loan and expenditure of $5,250,000 to carry out various engineering works, repairs to water and sewer systems and various professional fees related to the construction of the new library, which will bear the name of one of four historical Gatineau women candidates.
Clara Lanctôt (1886-1958), Donalda Charron (1886-1967), Marie-Thérèse Archambault (1904-1960) and Gabrielle Déziel-Hupé (1934-2010) were chosen by popular vote and the final choice of the name for the library name will be determined by the Board after the holiday season.
Proposed bylaws 853-2019 and 856-2019 were adopted by the City of Gatineau’s municipal council at its meeting on July 2, 2019. (Trans.: BA)
