LETTER
Hydro Quebec's next generation?
Thank you for publishing my complaint/concern regarding the new generation meters in the June 1 issue. Someone at Hydro Quebec must have read my diatribe because, on June 9, I received a letter from Hydro Quebec's Infrastructure de mesurage et solutions technologiques, informing me that they cannot change my old meter as there is "an irregularity with your socket and, to avoid any variation in supply voltage, they recommend that I have the necessary repairs done as soon as possible, by a master electrician, at my expense. Once the repairs are done (whatever they may be) I am to call Hydro and they will take the appropriate action.
Some ten plus years ago, Hydro Quebec changed my meter from the mechanical (gears and wheels) to an electronic one. When I noticed the meter change, I contacted Hydro and was informed that I was part of a sampling of customers chosen to have these meters installed. These meters still need to be read by a Hydro employee.
When I contacted Hydro’s customer service, the representative agreed that these installations are the property of Hydro Quebec. When I contacted the number given in the letter of May 26, I was asked to leave my phone number and someone would call me.
I am wondering if any other Bulletin readers have had this problem, and how it was resolved. I don't feel I should be
financially responsible for changes to the meter hook-up since I did not request a meter change but was a victim of circumstance in this "sampling" of customers. Hopefully, a Hydro official somewhere will understand my dilemma and be sympathetic.
