50 new bike spots at Grande-Rivière
Grande-Rivière High School recently purchased 50 new parking spaces for bikes. The school is working towards encouraging students to travel to and from school by bicycle. A few weeks ago, the Green Committee (E.S.G. vert) and the Student Council made the announcement. The Green Committee includes some 60 students who aim to develop and encourage eco-responsible lifestyles. Thirteen students sit on the Student Council, from secondary 1 through 5. Student Council is there to represent students, and respond to needs expressed by them.
Now that it is nicer out, the youth involved with the Green Committee had the opportunity to evaluate the use of bicycles, concluding that more bike supports are needed.
“One of the reasons the initiative was approved is the highlevel of use of the bike racks by students, which is excellent as far as we are concerned,” explained a spokesperson for the school. The school aims to encourage and inform people about healthy lifestyles for students. In this light, Grande-Rivière values active transit.
The 50 new bike spots are being built using funds raised by students.
