21,500 additional computers for Quebec students

At the request of Minister Jean-François Roberge, the Ministry of Education is making available 21,500 additional Chromebook devices to the school network. In order to adequately address the growing needs in the context of COVID-19 and to support the educational success of Quebec students, the Ministry of Education is increasing its ministerial reserve of computer devices.

School service centres and school boards whose computer inventory does not allow them to support students in their distance learning will therefore be able to apply for additional computer equipment. This equipment is intended primarily for students who do not have access, or exclusive access, to computer equipment, who are in Secondary III, IV or V under the alternating school attendance formula, who are at risk, disabled, or have adjustment or learning difficulties. 

Students considered at risk are preschool, elementary and high school students with vulnerabilities that may affect their learning, success, behaviour and socialization. 

To date, the computer equipment reserve has provided nearly 10,400 students with access to a laptop or tablet. Since the start of the school year, the network has acquired more than 213,000 devices, representing an investment of more than $105 million.
