$131 million for Outaouais’ roads
Laurent Robillard-Cardinal
Québec’s Transport Minister Robert Poëti unveiled the specific road projects that will be funded in the Outaouais, March 12. The province will invest close to $131 million between 2015 and 2017 in over 20 projects. Four projects are in Gatineau. The province earmarked $22.8 million to maintain the municipal road network.
Gatineau’s projects are largely linked to Highway 50, such as repairing the Draveurs Bridge and culverts over Noueux Brook, plus highway resurfacing between the La Vérendrye and the Montée Paiement interchanges.
The province will install traffic lights on Highway 148 at the off-ramp for Highway 50 and will reconstruct Highway 148 between Terry Fox Road and Maple Road near the Aylmer border. More towards the west, the province is repairing the bridge over McLennan Creek on Highway 148 and will install traffic lights at the Highway 148 and the Chute Road intersection near Fort Coulonge.
As for expanding Highway 50 from two to four lanes, Minister Poëti questioned the necessity of having four lanes throughout the route connecting Gatineau and Mirabel.
The minister stressed the importance of a good highway network for economic development.
